Aims & Scope
The Environment and Ecosystem Science journal covers research across scales, from local watersheds to global systems, and across timeframes from seconds to millennia. It links closely with fields such as ecology, biogeochemistry, hydrology, soil science, conservation biology, ecological economics, and sociology. The journal publishes studies on how ecosystems influence the environment and how environmental changes affect ecosystems, with priority given to experimental, observational, and data-based modeling research at field, system, or landscape levels. Interdisciplinary, comparative, and internationally relevant studies are especially encouraged, and all manuscripts are screened for topic suitability and language quality.
The focus of the journal is on the following subjects.
Spatial and Temporal Scales
- Research spans from small, bounded systems (e.g., watersheds) → to complex landscapes → to the entire Earth.
- Timescales range from seconds to millennia.
Interdisciplinary Connections
The journal emphasizes strong links with:
- Landscape ecology, global ecology, biogeochemistry, aquatic ecology, soil science, hydrology, ecological economics, and conservation biology.
Approaches
- Theoretical and modeling studies
- Long-term investigations
- Comparative research
- Large-scale experiments
